The weather did not affect the fishing.

This past week started out with scattered showers and a little wind but the weather did not affect the fishing.
Dorado continue to show in good numbers around the bouys in the La Ventana/El Sargento area and in the Muertos Bay area, these have weighed in between 15 - 25 pounds and were very strong! Some bouys had as many as 7 Dorado patrolling the area. The best bait has proven to be trolled  Monterey Sardines and small Mackeral.

Nice size Wahoo have also been showing between the Island and the Lighthouse on Magnum Rapalas in Purple/Mackeral pattern and Yellow/Orange Marauders especially in the morning hours before 9:00 AM

A few Marlin and Sailfish have been caught this week in the La Ventana/El Sargento area.

Earlier in the week a few very nice Pargo were caught which is very unusual for this time of year but was a nice surprise for the fisherman!

The weather has improved a great deal in the last few days - No rain and very little wind, the fishing continues to improve and provide great fishing for our customers.

This week still we had some inconsistent fishing.

This week still we had some inconsistent fishing.  The sardine are still missing from our local waters.  We have been able to use cocinero, balihoo and zebra to catch some dorado lingering around the bay and the rooster are still in full action.  Fisherman at Punta Arena have found that trolling for snapper has proven to be successful with boats bringing in at least a couple each day weighing in the 20-40lb range.  Mixed in with these snapper are some nice cabrilla and some very large rooster.  If you were trolling a bait near the shores of Punta Arena you were pretty much guaranteed to hook a nice rooster that put up a good fight.   Fisherman have both spotted and caught a large number of Marlin, releasing most back into the ocean.  Some of these Marlin have been up to 250lbs.  The buoys haven't had many dorado under them but occasionally when you did find one it was big.  Some dorado were brought in weighing up to 50lbs.  We had a glimmer of hope with a nice bait ball of large mackeral showing up at the end of the week.  These were perfect bait fish and hopefully more dorado will be headed our way.  Fisherman in the photos are, Crissy and Pete Teichmann with rooster, dorado and Marlin just before release.

Interesting week of fishing!

This week again has been an interesting week of fishing.  While fishing most of the week for dorado was near Las Cruces, some wind came in and scattered all the sawgrass and pushed it further North.  With most of the bigger clumps gone the dorado have been scattered about also.  Last week fisherman were boating limits of dorado and this week some boats are bringing back 2-3, and some none.  Some fisherman have opted to fish closer to shore near Punta Arena where Rooster are still there in large numbers and fisherman have been able to bag some Pargo each day.  The 88 bank has been hit or miss, with some fisherman catching some larger dorado under the buoys but not alot.  Bait is still difficult, and without alot of dorado around the Marlin are able to eat whatever they come across.  Their have been alot of big Marlin seen and caught this week most of them released.  As the water temperatures rise a bit we are hoping for more bait to bring back the big schools of fish In the cayion in fron Las Cruces for dorados and Punta Sur Cerralvo Rooster were cought..

The weather was beautiful around La Paz and the beaches

The fish were few but mighty for this group! Their catch was the talk of the beach at Las Arenas as few boats came in with even fewer fish. No sardines were around so everyone had to pick up Cocinera and Barred reef fish to troll with excellent results on a few big fish. The weather was beautiful around La Paz and the beaches. When the Blue Water came in some, the fish hit hard! Captain Rigo skillfully found a wide  variety of fish. The fish this group caught were remarkable and the fishermen are already planning their next trip with Tortuga Sportfishing.

Mongo Dorado - Mark Bird from San Antonio, Texas scored for this big Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) the first day. We hooked two at the same time while going for bait at the buoy, one in the boat (40 - 50#) and one shredded the line after diving under the boat. I guess batting .500 is not so bad!

Big Dog Pargo - This 50+ pound Pargo hit a trolled Cocinero and Tom Chapman from San Ramon, California thought he had the "Big Dog Pargo Dienton" (Dog Snapper) for the day. Little did he know that Mark Bird would come up with and even bigger one (70+ pound) about an hour later..... " Who's Yo Daddy Now?!!!" Fishing is just like that.

Jumpin Jack Flash - other wise known as Jack Crevaille  ("Toro" locally) came to the boat on the third day. A personal biggest for that species for Tom Chapman! Toro Fought the good fight so we let it go to get bigger for another day.

Rooster - The slashing attack on a trolled Cocinero by this excellent Roosterfish turned out to be a great fight for Ruben Garza from Plano, Texas. These fish are hard fighters and Ruben had a great time. He let it go to grow some more!!

water that just won't go away

May 27-June 2
Fishing has proven to be very difficult with the super green water that just won't go away.  Green water and lack of bait makes it definitely more challenging.  Hard to believe that just one week earlier waters were full of dolphin as far as you could see and you guessed it, tuna underneath.  With the tuna bite lasting only 2 days, they came and were gone just like that.  Then that pesky green water came in and just kept hanging around.  Although fishing was difficult, the Ulises Ochoa group were able to pull out some dorado at the North end of Cerralvo island, some large rooster and some snapper.   One of the fisherman in the Ochoa group did catch a large Dog Tooth Snapper weighing about 45 lbs near Punta Arena.  It was the best catch of the week.  Also, one of the locals caught 2 wahoo at the South end of the island.  Most fisherman hung close to Punta Arena and caught alot of large rooster and snapper. Hopefully the water will change back to blue soon and the bait will return.
June 3-13
This week the waters are starting to look more normal and are turning blue again. We are hoping it will bring with it more bait and fish. The last couple weeks have proven difficult with the really green waters not only in close but also out past the 88 bank. Bait is still difficult to catch but fisherman have been able to catch some very big rooster near Punta Arena. Some dorado have been caught farther South in the 25lb range and hopefully they will keep heading North for some closer catches. This week Mr. Hoyt and his friend Mike fished and caught some big rooster as well as Toro.

La Paz Fish Report for April ....

As water temperatures warm different species of fish have started showing up. Catches of Yellowtail, Pargo, Cabrilla and Sierra making their debut. Pangeros made the journey to the North end of Cerralvo Island for the yellowtail that were still biting. Fish were feeding on sardine and ranged in size from 25-50lbs. Fisherman heading back to the beach, trolled along the island and caught mixed bags of large cabrilla, small snapper and small yellowtail. Closer to shore at Punta Perico were the Pargo. Big balls of red could be seen moving up and down the shoreline. Fisherman got bait at the South end of the island and got ready for action. Most days the fish stayed in tight schools but on occasion were scattered about, some cruising 20 feet from shore. Your best bet was using lots of live and dead sardine. Pargo in the 25-60lb range were caught. If the Pargo weren't biting the cabrilla were. Fisherman did not go home empty handed. Commercial fisherman say the Sierra have just started showing up. In the picture is fisherman Pete, Nick and Sydney with a Pargo they caught that day. Chao Stanley cought Dog snapers, big cabrilla also Chuy Ordoña & Cocay show the Rooster fish.

After some windy days here in La Paz the weather has calmed and the fishing for yellowtail has been great just South of Muertos Bay. The typical size ranges between 30-40lb with larger fish up to 60lbs mixed in. Fisherman are using mackeral for bait. Pargo are still found at Punta Perico and fisherman are using sardines for bait. Last week Shaun Jensen, his wife Mandy, and friend Casey Cummins caught alot of yellowtail and had alot of filet to take home. Pete and Crissy Teichmann,Chris Ginocchio,Jtreme and Dr.Fonseca fished this week and also caught alot of nice yellowtail and red snapers. Their is still alot of bait around which means as long as their is food their will be fish to catch. The weather and conditions are only getting better so plan your trip and get in on the action.

This week fishing in La Paz was very good. Good sized pargo, yellowtail, and amberjack were caught at both Punta Perico and Punta Arena. Their was some wind a few days but it didn't stop the fish from biting. Fisherman Bill Evans who fishes with us often had nice mixed bag catches. Bring you friends and come down to La Paz and get your fish.
