La Paz Fish Report for April ....

As water temperatures warm different species of fish have started showing up. Catches of Yellowtail, Pargo, Cabrilla and Sierra making their debut. Pangeros made the journey to the North end of Cerralvo Island for the yellowtail that were still biting. Fish were feeding on sardine and ranged in size from 25-50lbs. Fisherman heading back to the beach, trolled along the island and caught mixed bags of large cabrilla, small snapper and small yellowtail. Closer to shore at Punta Perico were the Pargo. Big balls of red could be seen moving up and down the shoreline. Fisherman got bait at the South end of the island and got ready for action. Most days the fish stayed in tight schools but on occasion were scattered about, some cruising 20 feet from shore. Your best bet was using lots of live and dead sardine. Pargo in the 25-60lb range were caught. If the Pargo weren't biting the cabrilla were. Fisherman did not go home empty handed. Commercial fisherman say the Sierra have just started showing up. In the picture is fisherman Pete, Nick and Sydney with a Pargo they caught that day. Chao Stanley cought Dog snapers, big cabrilla also Chuy Ordoña & Cocay show the Rooster fish.

After some windy days here in La Paz the weather has calmed and the fishing for yellowtail has been great just South of Muertos Bay. The typical size ranges between 30-40lb with larger fish up to 60lbs mixed in. Fisherman are using mackeral for bait. Pargo are still found at Punta Perico and fisherman are using sardines for bait. Last week Shaun Jensen, his wife Mandy, and friend Casey Cummins caught alot of yellowtail and had alot of filet to take home. Pete and Crissy Teichmann,Chris Ginocchio,Jtreme and Dr.Fonseca fished this week and also caught alot of nice yellowtail and red snapers. Their is still alot of bait around which means as long as their is food their will be fish to catch. The weather and conditions are only getting better so plan your trip and get in on the action.

This week fishing in La Paz was very good. Good sized pargo, yellowtail, and amberjack were caught at both Punta Perico and Punta Arena. Their was some wind a few days but it didn't stop the fish from biting. Fisherman Bill Evans who fishes with us often had nice mixed bag catches. Bring you friends and come down to La Paz and get your fish.

Tortuga Six

Paul Doty, Bob Bergman, Jerry Clements, Ed Manko, Rick Fleming, and Jerry Goldfein fished with Tortuga 9/29-10/2. Sardine bait was limited to small dead at $20 for a 5 gallon bucket full, but live mackerel, baby bonito, and cocinero were all caught and used for tuna and Dorado. Tuna were found between the light house and the southern end of Cerravalo, Dorado were found at the buoys off the light house beach, and the buoys off Muertos. The bite, while not stellar, was none the less happening. Tuna were in the 25-35 pound class and dorado ranged from small non-keepers up to 20 pounds. It was hit and miss most times as there was never a wide open bite for either species. Several marlin and a couple of sailfish were also taken while trolling for Dorado. As usual, Gerardo’s hospitality was first class and Maya’s cooking was excellent. The portions were huge and delicious. Another great fishing trip enjoyed by all…
